Often referred to as “the Great American Novel,” Blood Meridian or The Evening Redness in the West is Cormac McCarthy’s magnum opus. An epic novel of the violence and depravity that attended America’s westward expansion, Blood Meridian brilliantly subverts the conventions of the Western novel and the mythology of the wild west.

Based on historical events that took place on the Texas-Mexico border in the 1850s, the novel traces the fortunes of the Kid, a fourteen-year-old boy from Tennessee, as he stumbles into the nightmarish world of the Glanton gang, a murderous cadre on a mission to massacre Indians and sell their scalps in a thriving market.

First published in 1985, American literary critic Harold Bloom praised Blood Meridian as “one of the 20th century’s finest novels,” while Aleksandar Hemon called it “possibly the greatest American novel of the past 25 years.” Time magazine included Blood Meridian in its “100 Best English-language Novels from 1923 to 2005.”

When I read that this was going to be produced like a lettered Suntup, that got my attention. Then when I recived it, my jaw hit the floor. This book and case are simply next level. This not only probably one of the nicest Suntup books I have, it's one of the nicest limited ed I have period. That binding and all the amterials are amaizing. The art is incredible. One of the best books I have in my collection.

If you only buy one book a month in 2022 buy this each month

The best book yet

This is an incredible book. The story is just perfect, with so many layers. It requires deep thought, and the end really threw me for a loop and caused me to question my perspective on the earlier parts of the novel. On top of that, the Suntup Numbered Edition is perfectly paired with the story. It is such a pleasure to read. (And yes, I am an advocate for actually reading a book like this, where the experience is amplified by the feel of the binding and paper in your hands, the letterpress, and the illustrations. It was so good!)
