THE COVERS COLLECTION - DOLORES CLAIBORNE

This month, we are pleased to reveal our fourth print from artist Rob Wood. Previously, we have published Rob’s artwork from Needful Things, Nightmares and Dreamscapes, and Four Past Midnight. Now, we are delighted to offer Rob’s beautiful art from the first edition of Dolores Claiborne as our latest addition to The Covers Collection.

Dolores Claiborne was the 32nd book published by Stephen King, originally released in November 1992. The novel, along with the author’s other 1992 release, Gerald’s Game, was originally conceived as part of a larger work to be entitled, In the Path of the Eclipse. After doing a whole series of sketches for Dolores Claiborne, including some of dust bunnies under a bed and many different concepts for the eclipse, the art director at Viking suggested a view of Dolores from the bottom of the well. As a result, we have Rob’s stunning artwork capturing Dolores standing over a wide well as the eclipse takes place behind her. The glorious detail to the brick can be seen here in this print like never before. It is easy to see why, of the many covers Rob Wood created for Stephen King, this is the one King personally asked if he could own.

These prints are hand-signed by Rob Wood, who has also created a Remarque which appears on the first 20 large prints — nine of which are available for purchase at the time of the release, so act fast on those.

My first, my favorite: Dolores

My aunt gave me a copy of the hardcover edition of Dolores Claiborne for Christmas of 1992. I wasn’t quite a teenager yet. I knew the name Stephen King, but had never read any of his books. I remember looking at the mysterious, haunting cover, completely thrilled to have been gifted such an “adult” book. Read it, loved it. I officially became a “Constant Reader.” To this day, Dolores is still my absolute favorite King book. I am honored to have a large remarqued print of this stunning cover. I was introduced to Suntup recently, and I’m blown away by the outstanding offerings! I am now on a quest to get copies of Suntup books that are now out of print, and I plan on pre-ordering each book as it becomes available. I recently purchased The Eyes of the Dragon Art Portfolio from another collector. The quality is no joke! Bravo, Suntup! You’ve got a very satisfied fan!

The menace of Delores Clairborne in her true glory

Rob Wood's powerful vision that draws the reader to come closer to what possibly lies at the bottom of that menacing well only enhances the spell of the tale king so magnificently presents within. As usual I never tire of gazing at the artwork and appreciating the 1st class SUNTUP production methods that bring us perfection month after month..
